Guys, I feel like a little kid again. As I write this I’m on my way to Walt Disney World! I’m so excited!!!
So according to Google maps this road trip is going to take about 17.5 hours…but throw in some New York City traffic and necessary stops we’ll have to make along the way and that leaves us with a road trip most likely closer to around 20ish hours. Basically, this drive is definitely going to test my patience.
What I am ready for though is the warm weather. These New York winters are definitely not my most favorite thing, and I’m ready to be in the 80-degree sunshine surrounded by palm trees.
Now, this isn’t my first rodeo.
The last time I went to Disney was 2 years ago so I pretty much know exactly what I should and shouldn’t pack and what I should and shouldn’t see.
BUT what makes this trip so incredibly exciting is that this will be my first time going to…drumroll…HARRY POTTER WORLD! Can you tell I’m so excited that I’m about to pee my pants? Because I’m on the verge of it.
I’m a huge, huge, huge fan of Harry Potter, I even have the deathly hallows symbol tattooed on my wrist, but last time I went to Disney no one I was with wanted to head over to Universal because it can get a bit pricey. However, I refused to visit Disney again and not go to Harry Potter World again. I’m about to cross something off my bucket list, guys!
I’m going to be honest, I’m a procrastinator and I often wait until the last minute to do things. And that’s exactly what I did with this trip. I actually found out about 3 weeks ago that one of my family members has a timeshare in Orlando and he invited me and my boyfriend to tag along with them since they have an extra bedroom, and I could not turn that offer down. I didn’t actually book the trip until this past Monday though. Of course this trip would normally be virtually impossible to book this late in the game, but since I didn’t need a hotel or a flight I was able to do it with no problem.
Because this trip is so last minute we still don’t even really have an itinerary. We have Universal booked and that’s about it. No dinner reservations, no fast passes, nothing. We’re basically going to wing it and hope everything works out well, so keep your fingers crossed for us!
So, while I can’t currently give you guys my itinerary I can give you an idea of what sorts of things you should pack if you ever make it to Disney in the future (and you definitely should!) Packing can often be the most stressful part of your entire trip, and I want to make things as easy as possible for you.
What to Pack
So Florida is generally always pretty warm, and during this time of the year it’s in the 80s. However, it does rain a lot there and can get very humid, so it’s important to prepare yourself for various kinds of weather. Clothing essentials I’m packing include:
- Tank tops
- Short sleeve shirts
- Flip flops
- Bathing suit
Oh sunny Florida, imagine getting caught on a week-long vacation there with absolutely nothing to shade yourself from the sun? Make sure you remember to pack a pair (or maybe two) of sunglasses and some hair ties to keep your hair up off of your neck for when the temperatures are at their highest.
- Headbands/hair ties/hair clips
- Drawstring bag/backpack
Hotels often do give you the basics when it comes to toiletries, but they’re often gone after one use because of how small they are. Some toiletries you’re going to want to pack include:
- Face wash/moisturizer
- Body lotion
- Body wash
The last thing you want is to have to suffer through a vacation not feeling well. You can most likely find somewhere to buy medicine, but it’s much easier to just bring some yourself – especially if any of them are prescription. Some medications I’m bringing to Disney are:
- Birth control
- Band aids
- Heartburn medication
- Allergy medicine
- Cold medicine
Don’t ask me how I’m going to survive a 20-hour car ride, because I have no idea how it’s going to happen. I’m going to bring along some trusty items to try to keep myself entertained, so hopefully they lend me a hand on this road trip. What I’ll have with me at all times include:
- Laptop & charger
- Phone & charger
- Polaroid camera
The miscellaneous items are usually the items I always forget. This is why it’s super important to (try) not to wait until the last minute to pack! Some extra items I’ll be packing with me are:
- Minnie Mouse ears
- Money/bank or credit card/ID
- Ziploc bags (so phones don’t get ruined on water rides)
So now that you have everything together that you plan on packing to bring with you, you have to actually pack it. I know, this part sucks, but I’m going to give you some tips on how to pack as successfully as possible.
- Keep all your outfits together so it’s easier to get ready each morning.
- Roll your clothes instead of folding them to maximize space in your bags.
- Put items such as lotion and sunscreen in Ziploc bags to avoid spills.
- Keep a small bag with you separate from luggage that will be checked at an airport or shoved in the trunk of your car for items you’ll want with you for the plane ride/car ride.
Keep your fingers crossed for me that we have a safe trip and nice weather! Last time I went to Disney it rained almost every single day I was there, so sunshine would be nice!
I’m going to be doing a lot of Instagram live so make sure you’re following me on my Instagram account if you’d like to check it out! I’ll also be doing another post once I return home telling you about my itinerary and such so make sure you keep an eye out for that!
Update: that post has been published! If you’re booking a trip to Disney and would like a few tips and insider secrets, check out my post The Essential Guide to Walt Disney World!
This is my first vacation of 2018 and I’m hoping it’s not the last. As of now I have one other trip for 2018 in the works and I’m trying to plan more, hopefully my bank account agrees with me haha. Until then I have lots and lots of time in this car ride to work on some blogging stuff. No more excuses to fall behind!
