For many of us blogging is a passion – so much so that we daydream day after day about quitting our 9 to 5’s to hustle at home as a full-time blogger. Now, you can keep that daydream as what it is, a daydream, or you can work your butt off and turn it into a reality!
There are tons of things you can do and steps you can take to make your blog as successful as possible. And sure, everyone measures success differently, but who wouldn’t agree that crazy traffic and a full-time income means your blog is pretty successful? *crickets* yep, I thought so.
So, I know what you’re asking – how exactly do I set up my blog for success? Well, I’m about to tell you! Sit back, relax, maybe sip on some chamomile tea (yum) and, as long as you follow these steps, you’ll have a successful money-making, traffic increasing blog in no time.

Find Your Voice
This is an aspect of blogging that I think is so super important. Many of us worry that, with so many blogs out there, what makes our own blog special? Well the answer is your voice. You can be writing about the same content as someone else but your posts can look, sound, and feel completely different! We all have a different voice, we all have a different story to tell, and that’s why your voice is so important when it comes to blogging!
Now, going off of writing in your own style and voice, you’re going to want to create kick ass content that matters. What sort of content is kick ass? I consider this sort of content any content that your readers would find interesting, easily relatable, and beneficial in some way.
Let’s go back to our middle school days – think: quality over quantity. Now, which do you think is better? 100 blog posts that are super general, not very informative, and not beneficial to your reader, or 10 in-depth, informative, and interesting posts that keep your reader wanting more? If you picked option two then good for you! You’re getting the hang of this blogging thing.
As long as you’re writing all of your posts in your own unique voice you’ll start to attract readers who are interested in what you have to say. And, guess what that means – more traffic and a dedicated audience! Hello, readers!
Make Sure Your Blog Is Attractive
Now that your blog is attracting more readers, you’re going to want to make sure your blog is attractive, easy to navigate, and solid. They say it only takes a few seconds for readers to decide whether or not they like your blog, so make sure that first impression is a positive one!
Some tips when it comes to making sure your blog is attractive include:
- Make sure it’s easy to read – no illegible fonts, no crazy colors, and the design is simple.
- Make sure it’s easy to navigate – make sure your menu and navigation bars are clearly split up into different categories, they make sense, and they’re easy to find.
- Make sure your blog is pretty! (and, a great tip, less is definitely more when it comes to your design and layout – don’t overwhelm your readers!)
Now, you don’t need to spend your entire life savings on your blog, but you definitely should make a few investments if you want your blog to be successful in the long run. In my post the ultimate list of blogging tools and resources, I compiled a list of my favorite blogging tools such as what hosting I use, some sites I use when it comes to monetizing my blog, and an e-book that helped me along the way.
Like I said, some things will require you investing in, such as hosting, but there are so many tools and resources out there that are completely free and will take your blog to the next level.
Find Your Blogging Tribe
The best way to understand everything there is to know about blogging is to connect to other bloggers out there. I can’t stress enough how important it is to be part of a blogging community. Just think: if you ever ran into a problem with your blog, would you want advice from your friend who knows nothing about blogging, or a fellow blogger? The answer is obvious.
The most important thing to remember when it comes to blogging is that there’s room for all of us! This goes back to step one and finding your voice. We all have something different to offer and something new we’re bringing to the table, so don’t look towards other bloggers as your competition.
Do your best to establish relationships and connections with other bloggers. Leave meaningful comments on other bloggers’ posts, follow them on social media, join groups, or simply just reach out and say hi! No matter how you approach it you’ll find that it’s much easier than you think to connect with other bloggers and grow your own blogging tribe.
Use Social Platforms To Your Advantage
Social media is something you absolutely cannot leave on the back burner when it comes to blogging. You’ll hear it over and over again from every blogger out there – social media is the easiest way to grow your following and gain traction towards your blog, you just have to know the best way to use it.
Take Pinterest, for example. Many bloggers will agree that Pinterest is the most important social platform when it comes to blogging. There are simple steps you can take to make the most of Pinterest and grow a following, such as enabling rich pins on your account. Don’t worry, it’s much easier than it sounds, and I wrote an entire step-by-step guide on how to set this up.
Now, the most general tip when it comes to making the most of your social media is by staying active. How can you do that though without allowing social media to take up all your time? Well, all you have to do is use some scheduling tools like Tailwind, which will do all the work for you!
Between using scheduling tools to stay active on your accounts, focusing on your social media stats, and understanding what strategies do and don’t work, social media can be your most vital tool to setting up your blog for success.
Never Stop Researching!
Before I even thought about taking the leap towards purchasing hosting for my blog I have to say I researched for a solid three months. In the past I had my own personal blogger account where I’d post my writing, but it was nothing like purchasing a domain name and having my own public lifestyle blog! The whole blogging world was, and still is, completely new to me and at first I knew absolutely nothing about it.
I watched YouTube videos, read thousands of other bloggers’ posts, bought e-books, and participated in training sessions – and I took notes on all of it. That left me with a 50-page word document that I named “The Ultimate Guide to Lifestyle Blogging” and the overwhelming desire to finally start a blog of my own.
Now, no matter how much research I’ve done in my past, the truth is the blogging world is constantly changing and evolving. You should never be satisfied with the knowledge you possess because there’s always going to be more to learn. There’s so much information out there for you to stumble upon.
On the flip side, the fact that there’s SO much information out there can easily overwhelm you, I know it stressed me out a bit. So, to point you in the right direction, I definitely recommend checking out Krista Aoki of Reroute Lifestyle’s e-book, Career in the Making. She tells you everything there is to know about taking blogging from a hobby to a business, and exactly how to begin making money from blogging. Seriously, it’s definitely a product you want to invest in, and the price is extremely affordable. This e-book was one of the first investments I made when it came to starting my blog and I was not disappointed.
The thing is, when it comes to blogging success, it’s so easy to achieve that dream. As long as you work hard, educate yourself, and know what strategies to use, you’ll have a successful blog in no time. I wish you luck and all the success in the world!
