If you’ve checked out my DIY Wooden Bead Wall Hanging post you’d know that I looove anything bohemian, and am a huuuuge fan of the new yarn wall hanging trend (and, if you followed my tutorial and DIY’d your own wooden bead wall hanging, send me a picture! I’d love to see your finished product!!!)
So, even though summer is only about a month away here in New York, this week is looking super gloomy and rainy, and I’m taking full advantage of it – and no, that doesn’t mean I’m spending the entire day cuddling in bed in my pajamas….okay, maybe I am still in my pj’s but I have made it out of bed!
I decided since I still have some supplies left over from my last wall hanging, and since I’m DIY obsessed, that I’d make another wall hanging tutorial, but this time with much less steps! Yes, that’s right, even the most creatively challenged people out there will be able to follow this tutorial with no problem!
Here’s my newest DIY tutorial – I had a lot of fun creating it and am absolutely in love with the finished product, and I’m sure you will be as well!
- Gold ring (whatever size you’d like, I bought 5 inch ones off of Amazon HERE!)
The first thing you’re going to want to do is figure out how long you want the yarn to hang down from the gold ring. To do this I just laid the gold ring down and placed the yarn at the bottom of it, and then just eyeballed about how far down I wanted it to reach. Once you find a length you’re happy with you’re going to cut the piece of yarn double the size you chose because when attaching it to the gold ring you’ll fold the yarn in half.
Once you have your piece of yarn cut in the length you’re happy with, you’re going to cut a bunch more of them. For mine, I cut 23 pieces of yarn in total.
Once all your yarn is cut you’re going to take one piece, fold it in half, and then lay it on top of the bottom of the gold ring. Taking the 2 ends of the yarn, you’re going to wrap them around the bottom of the gold ring and through the loop of the top of the folded yarn.
Pull the 2 loose ends of the yarn as tight as possible through the loop so that it knots around your gold ring. This will leave you with what is called a lark head’s knot, and this knot is how you’ll create the rest of your wall hanging.
Continue to make lark head knots around your gold ring with the rest of your pieces of yarn. You’ll end up with a pretty great looking wall hanging once you’ve finished, but there’s always ways you can dress it up a bit more! In this case I just used the yarn from the 3 most center lark head’s knots and braided them together.
Feel free to personalize it any way you want! From adding a few knots to some of the pieces of yarn to adding some wooden beads or jewels, there’s tons of ways you can add your own little touch and truly make it your own DIY wall hanging!
And voila – that’s all there is too it! See, I told you it would go much quicker and easier than my Wooden Bead Wall Hanging Tutorial!
As always let me know in the comments below if you have any questions or would like any of the steps explained in a different way! I try to make my instructions as easy to follow, so I hope between those and my pictures that these DIY tutorials are easy to create on your own.
And if you create one of these yourself I’d absolutely love to see your finished product!
